I’ll Be Back! The Return of the Iconic
Matsuda
ШУУД ҮЗЭХ 2809 Sunglasses
Japan’s Matsuda Eyewear, known for its use of finely engraved metals and bold styles, is marking its 25th anniversary by resurrecting one of its most iconic pieces: the 2809 sunglasses. Made famous by Linda Hamilton’s character Sarah Connor in the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the unisex model features mineral-glass lenses with four layers of antireflective coating and is available in three color options: brushed or antique silver frames with gray polarized lenses and gold frames with green polarized lenses.
Each pair, handcrafted by 11 or more artisans at the company’s workshops
in Japan, takes over 100 hours to shepherd through a meticulous process
of engraving, stamping, cutting, soldering, plating, polishing, and
assembling. Matsuda is offering the 2809 as a set (priced at $1,500)
that includes the iconic detachable side shield, a brow bar, and two
leather cases, all housed in a custom bamboo box. The eyewear will be
limited to just 250 pairs in each color option and will be part of the
brand’s Heritage capsule collection of revived styles, ranging from $450
to $1,500 per pair.
